The Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 & Rules 1971, were enacted to prevent the exploitation of contract workers as no existing legislation deals with contract workers. In addition, the Authority must consider certain shortcomings of the Act, and essential changes should be made & implemented. The act intends to prohibit the employment of contract labour in certain circumstances and to regulate the working conditions of contract labour during employment. In this Course, we look at the Contract Labour Act applicable in India in detail.
